Meet Sarah

Sarah (she/her) is a licensed graduate professional counselor in Washington, DC. She earned her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with an emphasis in Somatic Counseling from Prescott College.

Sarah specializes in supporting trauma survivors and highly sensitive people. Highly sensitive people (HSPs), about 20% of the human population, are deep feelers and deep thinkers, may experience “sensory overload” or chronic overwhelm, are often drawn to helping or creative professions/ways of life, and may or may not identify as neurodivergent. Sarah supports her highly sensitive clients to foster safe and loving “inner homes” within themselves, get clear on their own boundaries, and learn to appreciate–and truly enjoy–their unique gifts. HSPs may identify as spiritual or have unique spiritual experiences, and Sarah has a special interest in accompanying clients who are exploring their spirituality, including those who have had non-ordinary spiritual experiences they are trying to make sense of.

Sarah also works with trauma survivors, and clients come to her for help healing the painful impact of abuse, neglect, sexual violence, traumatic loss, or–not to be underestimated–not feeling seen or cherished for who they truly are, whether in the past or present. She partners with adults who experienced a lack of safety or attunement as children, empowering them with strategies to tap into their own innate healing abilities, to intentionally tend to the ongoing impact of childhood pain.

Sarah uses self-compassion, Narrative Sand Therapy (therapeutic use of symbols), Internal Family Systems, and EMDR, guiding you to build a loving relationship with yourself – even (especially!) the parts of yourself that might feel troublesome or unworthy. With a background as a licensed bodyworker, Sarah utilizes mind-body approaches to help you ease chronic trauma responses in the nervous system. Attending to the body’s natural responses to trauma while simultaneously fostering a stance of inner care and compassion toward yourself makes it possible to recover a felt sense of comfort and empowerment in your own skin. Sarah is a good fit for clients who want to go deep, connecting with their intuition and the messages their body holds for them. Once painful symptoms feel less overwhelming, Sarah draws from existential therapy to activate an inner sense of freedom from which to make choices. She approaches life’s big questions with a spirit of humility and helps you tune inward with new tools to unfold a unique path forward.

Sarah completed clinical training at the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center, providing therapy for survivors of both recent and past sexual trauma. She is a former professional (and family) caregiver for those at the end of life. Sarah also provides affirming therapy for disabled and chronically ill folks, drawing from her passion for Disability Justice as well as her own lived experience navigating chronic illness in ableist culture.

Sarah believes life-changing therapy isn’t just a cognitive process, but one felt in the body and heart as you soak in—at your own pace—the experience of feeling safe, understood, and cared for in a deeply connected therapeutic relationship. She is honored to be entrusted with this role by clients. She prioritizes creating an empowered, welcoming space for those who experience oppression. Sarah has an insatiable hunger for learning and cherishes her commitment to ongoing education as a therapist (and person). Knowing the importance of therapeutic fit, Sarah provides a free 20-minute consultation call. If you don’t see a consultation time slot that works well for you on the calendar, don’t hesitate to reach out to her directly to find a time that works.
